I had to cancel Thursday’s lesson because of pressing issues at work. Next lesson is scheduled for Sunday. I have kicked my study for the written test into high gear. I am planning to take it the first week of June. I will be good to get that milestone out of the way.
Continue readingThe plan for this lesson was to work on side slips, forward slips and go-arounds. We flew to Grand Geneva Resort Airport where the wind was almost directly across the runway. Unfortunately, as it turned out, it was just too bumpy to accomplish everything we had planned. We did do some go-arounds and they worked […]
Continue readingYesterday’s lesson was all about pattern entry and exit. We spent about an hour in the classroom going over the procedures for getting into and out of controlled and uncontrolled fields. When the white board was filled with sketches and we had inspected the sectional and the A/FD, Sandy made one final point. What we […]
Continue readingStage two training started off with a lesson on stalls. We began with some slow flight but, this time, Sandy had me go from there right into a power off stall. We followed that with a couple power off stalls from 20 degree banked turns. I had no particular problem with those. I managed to […]
Continue readingCeilings in the area were too low for the stall sequences that we had planned for yesterday’s lesson. Instead, we got caught up on ground school. Aeromedical factors and aeronautical decision making were the subjects of the day. We’ll try to fly the lesson on Sunday.
Continue readingMy stage one checkflight was scheduled for Sunday. The weekend storms that hit the Midwest with thunder, lightning and tornados made that impossible. To avoid any longer delay than necessary, we rescheduled it for the first day that promised decent weather, which happened to be yesterday (Tuesday). I would be flying with Skip, the general […]
Continue readingThis lesson was, pretty much, a repeat of the last one. We went through all the maneuvers one more time. They all went a little better than the last lesson so, I am making progress. Next flight is scheduled for Sunday and will be my Stage One checkflight. Sandy is offering less and less help […]
Continue readingThe sky was actually clear when I got to the airport yesterday. This was my first clear flying day in a long time but, as it turns out, the airplane will still fly on days when the sky is blue instead of gray. I got a chance to see a light signal from the tower […]
Continue readingLight snow showers in the area almost kept us on the ground again Thursday. The plan for this lesson had been to practice everything I have learned so far in preparation for my Stage One checkflight. I went outside to preflight the plane while Sandy waited for the new METARS to come out. Before I […]
Continue readingAfter still another ground school session last Thursday, I finally got back in the air on Sunday afternoon. The ceiling was a little low but no problem for the ground reference maneuvers we had planned. In general, they went pretty well. We started with rectangular patterns, then S-turns and finally turns about a point. The […]
