Northern Illinois, like so much of the country, was hammered by the blizzard of 2011. My workplace was closed on Wednesday but I ended up spending almost four hours of my “day off” clearing my driveway. Normally, that takes less than half an hour. The drifts were to high for the snow blower to handle so I had to use a shovel to knock down a little at a time and then blow it away.
This morning, less than 24 hours after the snow stopped falling, almost all the roads are cleared and I was able to drive into work with no problem. That is the advantage of living in an area that is prepared for snow and has the equipment to handle it. Of course the downside to living here is the cold – below 0 this morning.
