A Temporary Hiatus

The cold, wintry weather has finally gotten to me. I find that, due to weather and work, I am only flying every two weeks or so. That means most of my flight time is spent in review. When the weather has been good enough to fly, it hasn’t been good enough for my long cross country. My wife and I are leaving for a two week Mediterranean cruise in early March which will mean another layoff. So, I have decided to hold off on any more flying lessons until I get back from the vacation. Then I will do whatever I can to get in at least two lesson a week until I get the check ride done. The weather will be a little warmer, and hopefully better, and the days will be longer making it easier to go flying after work. In the mean time, I am going to hit the books hard to prepare for the oral exam.

I will post anything interesting that comes up and I will report on the cruise later too.

That seems like a wise choice, Tom. Good decision-making. Enjoy the cruise!

We sure have had some crummy weather this winter haven’t we? For those of you who aren’t in the Chicago area, we got hit with another winter storm this past weekend.

    Hi Tom,

I’ve been reading and appreciating your blog for some time now. I’m also a middle aged guy finally acting on a life long dream to fly.

I started lessons last spring and flew 30 some hours over the summer. I’ve been doing all of my training in a Citabria, though I’ll have to learn instrument flight and take that part of the test in a Cessna (because the Citabria doesn’t have an artificial horizon instrument). I got close to soloing, but I also decided to take a break until spring when the weather gets more reliable.

Your blog has been instructive, and inspirational.

    Thanks,

Thank you for reading and for the kind words Bob. Learning in a Citabria has got to add an extra challenge to the process. Let’s hope we can both get back in the air soon.
